Coast Guard Veterans Exposed to Asbestos Diagnosed with Mesothelioma

U. S. Coast Guard veterans are very likely to have been exposed to Asbestos while on duty, especially during WWII. This put them at very high risk of eventually developing life-threatening diseases such as Mesothelioma and other asbestos-related illnesses.

Coast Guard Asbestos Exposure & Mesothelioma

The Coast Guard level of exposure is very similar to that of the U. S. Navy. Furthermore, the Coast Guard  used ships that were constructed using Asbestos materials.

It is highly advisable that all Coast Guard veterans should be aware of the dangers Asbestos posed to them or their families and seek legal help.

Each branch of the military used asbestos products in areas where servicemen and women became Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma victims, along with other asbestos-related diseases.

There are many programs to assist Veterans who have a service-related illness. Unfortunately, this process is not straightforward and can be frustrating.

These Veterans' benefits are part of your compensation for service to the country. You earned them with honor. Let Flint Law Firm help.

Similarly to the U. S. Navy, members of the Coast Guard spent a lot of time aboard ships, putting them at risk of being exposed to Asbestos. A few examples of ships that the Coast Guard frequently used are:

  • Utility boats
  • Tug Boats
  • Long-range Interceptors
  • Transportable Port Security Boats
  • USCG seagoing buoy tenders

Apart from these, Coast Guard veterans were also aboard larger vessels, maybe even warships and all these ships contained Asbestos as an insulator in places and components such as:

  • Weapons and ammunition storage rooms, engine rooms, and boiler rooms
  • Cables, gaskets, and valves
  • Wall and flooring insulation
  • Mess halls, navigation rooms, and sleeping quarters
  • Motors, compressors, pipes, and pumps

Ships had very poor ventilation, especially on the lower decks. This made it possible for microscopic Asbestos fibers to break apart from wear and tear and to remain airborne for a lot of time, increasing the risk of someone inhaling them.

After the late 1970s, Asbestos was no longer being used in the construction of ships, but many military vessels that contained Asbestos remained operational, putting even more members of the U. S. Military at risk of developing Mesothelioma and other dangerous illnesses.

We Do Not Sue the military or the government. Mesothelioma and other asbestos-related cancers in veterans are the responsibility of the asbestos manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers. These companies profited from the military even after they knew of the dangers of Asbestos.
