Home / Military Asbestos Exposure / VA Claims For Mesothelioma

Types Of Asbestos Diseases and Compensation Recognized by the VA

U.S. Veterans who fell ill as a result of Asbestos exposure during their service can file asbestos-related claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, also known as VA. The VA offers special resources to Veterans who developed asbestos-related diseases, providing them with advanced medical care and special forms of monetary compensation.

VA Claims for Mesothelioma

The VA provides their services to all branches of the U.S. Military.

U. S. Veterans and Mesothelioma

According to the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there are currently more than 25 million people who have served in the Military. We at Flint Law Firm are proud of this rich tradition, and count some of our family among those who have served their country. As a firm, we are happy to help our Veterans in any way we can. Unfortunately, one legacy of military service is that our military bases, shipyards, and vessels have (until recently) had a high potential for Asbestos exposure.

Those who served in the Navy, Army, Marine Corps, Coast Guard & Air Force may be eligible to file a claim. If you qualify, we will NOT be pursuing any legal action against our military, our country, nor any branch of the service. We will only be pursuing claims against the Asbestos manufacturers for the harm that they knowingly caused in providing Asbestos containing products to the United States armed forces.

We can help Military veterans apply for Veteran Administration benefits.

Types Of Asbestos Diseases Recognized by the VA

Asbestos exposure can lead to many other health problems, not only mesothelioma. The VA recognizes that some of these diseases and symptoms can be triggered by asbestos exposure, and treats them accordingly, offering compensation and benefits to veterans if they are affected by the following:

  • Pleural Mesothelioma
  • Peritoneal Mesothelioma
  • Asbestos Lung Cancer
  • Asbestosis
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis
  • Pleural Plaques
  • Pleural Effusion
  • Cancer of the bronchus, larynx, or pharynx
  • Cancer of the gastrointestinal tract

Types Of Compensation Provided By The VA

Veterans are eligible for multiple types of compensation, depending on their medical condition. The most common forms of VA benefits are disability compensation and special health care provided by the VA. Disability compensation is usually provided via monthly pay-checks. Special health care includes advanced medical healthcare provided by several VA treatment centers across the U.S. These treatment centers provide specialized care for veterans affected by asbestos-related diseases.

Special monthly compensation is a different form of disability compensation. Special monthly compensation is available for veterans who are bed-ridden or homebound. Their disability doesn't allow them to care for themselves, and require additional assistance, either at home or by living in a special facility.

Apart from disability compensation and special health care, the VA also provides other benefits, such as the Dependency and Indemnity Compensation. More commonly known as DIC, this type of monthly compensation is available for the surviving spouses of veterans who lost their lives because of a service-connected disability.

How To File For VA Claims

To be eligible to file a VA claim, Veterans need a proper diagnosis that proves their disease was caused by exposure to Asbestos. They are also required to present their military records, to prove the exposure occurred during their time of service.

The rest of the process is very complicated requiring contacting the VA and filling out the appropriate forms. Our Asbestos Lawyers at Flint Law Firm have decades of accumulated experience in helping veterans file for VA claims and would like to guide and assist you through this complicated process. We will do all the work for you so that you can focus on your health.

We Do Not Sue the Military or the Government

We Do Not Sue the Military or the Government

Mesothelioma and other asbestos-related cancers in veterans are not the fault of the military or the government. It is, however, the fault of the asbestos manufacturers, distributors and suppliers who profited from selling asbestos to the military even after they knew of the dangers of asbestos.
